Idaho, Aged 83 William A. Goan, who lived in this county for 51 years, died at his home at Mt. Idaho Tuesday, March 2, and will be buried tomorrow from the Hancock Funeral Chapel, with the interment in the cemetery at Mt. Idaho. Death was due to old age and Mr. Goan seemed to have some premonition of its coming, since he recently wrote the following account of his life: "I was born in Illinois, August 25, 1860. In 1864 I crossed the plains with my parents by team to Sacramento, Calif. At the age of 17, I left home and went to Lebanon, Ore. Three years later I went to Eastern Oregon, near Canyon City, and for several years worked on a cattle ranch. On February 20, 1886, I was married to Catherine I. Fogle. In 1892, we moved to Camas Prairie and located at Mt. Idaho, and ranched some. For several years I followed cooking in Lewiston and was camp cook near Vancouver, Wash., in 1937 until my health broke down." Mr. Goan then gave the names and birth dates of his eight children, of whom six are living. Mrs. Goan passed away three years ago, on March 4, 1940. His daughters are Ida May Earp, Georgia Dean, Leora Ritz, Ruth Pollan, and Ella Leverhagen, the latter of San Francisco. Ralph (Jack) Goan lives in Portland. His sons Robert and Jim died in 1939 with a month of each other.
