Earnest Leach Loses Life
Grading Road

Pinned Underneath Tractor
When Overturned;
Icy Bend Fatal Spot

  Ernest C. Leach, road foreman for Grangeville highway district was instantly 
killed Monday afternoon on the Cove road near Mt. Idaho when a caterpillar 
tractor he was driving overturned on a steep embankment pinning him 
underneath.  Mr. Leach was in charge of a WPA crew who were grading, filling, 
and draining the road bed when the accident occurred.
  Mr. Leach had been formerly employed by Roy Green on road construction work 
and had been an employee of the highway district for several years.  Witnesses 
to the unfortunate tragedy stated that Mr. Leach was thrown into a fence below 
the road when the tractor overturned, and was caught before he could escape.
  Ernest Cecil Leach was born October 10, 1891 in Bondville, Illinois, and 
came with his parents to Grangeville in 1909.  He was united in marriage to 
Anna Cash September 11, 1927.
  Surviving are his widow, his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Earl James and Mrs. 
Taft Storey, both of Nampa, Idaho, and three brothers; Lloyd of Grangeville, 
Lawrence of Tuscon, and Charles, present address unknown.
  Funeral services were held at the Hancock-Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon 
with the Rev.'s Herman Beaber and Leon Stanton officiating and burial was in 
Prairie View Cemetery.
