Services will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Howe Darrell Mortuary, 1701 W. South Boulder Road, Lafayette. Colby was born in Boles, Idaho (formally known as Spring Camp) on April 14, 1920. His family and relatives homesteaded and cattle ranched that area near the Hell’s Canyon of the Snake River on the Idaho-Oregon border since the late 1800s. (His father, Walter Lemons, was the state brand inspector for the State of Idaho in the 1950s.) After graduating from Grangeville High School in 1938, Colby entered the Ryan School of Aeronautics in San Diego as an airplane mechanic before serving in World War II in North Africa with the United States Army Signal Corp. After the war he managed a small airport in Caldwell Idaho before going to work for Consolidated Aircraft (Convair) and Beech Aircraft in Kansas, Arkansas and Colorado as an airplane quality control inspector (a rather important job, he thought). Later he worked for Bechtel as a power plant inspector in Colorado, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and Michigan. He retired with his wife Dotha “Dodie” Leinberger Lemons in Lafayette in 1983. She passed away in 1994. Colby enjoyed airplanes, electronic tinkering, fishing, cats, Santiago’s Mexican food (especially the enchiladas), finding a good bargain and was a devoted recycler. His ashes will be buried beside his wife’s in the old Louisville Cemetery on Empire Road. He was known for his kind, gentle spirit and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughter, Jacki Myers; his stepdaughter, Jetta Dailey; his stepson, Jerry Hanson, his son-in-law, Todd Myers and his granddaughter Taylor Myers. Contributions will be accepted by the family to establish a fund for recycling efforts in Colby’s community. Additional Comments: Residence at Lafayette, Boulder County, Colorado at time of death.
