Painter, 91, Dry Gulch, was Wednesday at the Merchants Funeral Home, Clarkston, with the Rev. G. Edward Knight of the Clarkston First Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery. Mrs. Painter died Saturday at her home. She was born September 26, 1871 at Oil City, Penn. When she was 10, her parents, Judge and Mrs. William J. Galbraith moved to Deer Lodge, Mont., where he was a federal judge for the state. Later she taught school there and in Colville, Seattle, and Alaska. During World War I she was a hostess at a hunting lodge in Dixie. Her husband was John O. Jones whom she married in the 1920’s. She married John Painter in the 1930’s. He died in 1936. Mrs. Painter’s daughter, Mrs. Katherine Maynard, died in a snowstorm in 1952 while searching for cattle on their ranch near White Bird. Mrs. Painter sold the ranch and later moved to Lewiston. Later she moved to Dry Gulch where she made her home with a granddaughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Burnice Moore.
