She was born on May 4, 1926, at Harrisburg near Woodland to Carl and Adah (Rencehausen) Pfefferkorn. She had two brothers and two sisters. She was raised in the Woodland area during the Great Depression and the experiences provided her with a strong sense of community combined with the ability to get along with what she had. Her love for and her association with the people and the community of Woodland lasted her lifetime. Many who knew her were treated to "the Woodland Historical Tour."
