Schwartz, of Council, died on Nov. 4, 2005. He was born on Aug. 20, 1920, in Greencreek, the seventh of 11 children. He was the beloved husband of 37 years of Edith June (Clelland). He is survived by Edith; his children, Troy (Nancy) Schwartz, Karen (Derek) Moritz, Marie Boutwell, Barbara (Brent) Belveal, and Jennifer Schwartz; his brother, Kenneth Schwartz; his sisters, Genevieve Griewing and Felice Westermeier; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, a daughter, a son-in-law, and two nephews. He was a 1939 graduate of Ferdinand High School. Following graduation, he farmed and ranched with two of his brothers in Ferdinand before moving to Fruitvale, just outside of Council. In Fruitvale, he joined another brother in a second ranching partnership. On Oct. 19, 1968, he married Edith, and They continued the ranch at Fruitvale until they retired in 1990. During the years 1973-81, he served as the Adams County Commissioner. He also worked for the U.S. Forest Service throughout the years, building roads and piling brush.
