C. R. Waite of Kooskia. Miss Mary Rosetta Green was born July 31, 1872, at Tiosa, Ind., and died Jan. 3, 1942, at her home in Stites, at the age of 69 years, five months and three days. She was united in marriage to Sylvester M. Swinehart Aug. 29, 1890. To this union were born five children, Mrs. Lydia McNeil and Roy Swinehart of Stites; Rev. Elmer S., of Clarkston, Wash.; Mrs. Elva Whitcomb, Lewiston, and Mrs. Grace Lyons of Elk City. The family moved from Indiana to Clearwater in September, 1895, to the home of Mrs. Swinehart’s uncle, Peter King, of Battle Ridge. They were among the pioneers of the upper Clearwater region, having settled there before the railroad came to Lewiston. They made their home in the Stites vicinity until death of the husband and father March 2, 1921, Mrs. Swinehart having since lived in Stites. All of her children were at the bedside at time of her death. She had been a member of the Stites Baptist church since 14 years of age, was of a happy and kind disposition, and was loved by all who knew her. She leaves to survive, besides her five children, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were made by George Trenary and son of Kooskia. The choir was composed of Mrs. Muriel Wilburn, Mrs. Stanley Chase, Miss Arla Lytle, Roy Lytle, John Chase and Roland Huffman, with Mrs. A. J. Stuart at the organ. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lytle and Mr. and Mrs. Huffman had decorated the church with the many floral offerings. The body of Mrs. Swinehart was interred beside that of her husband in the family plot on Battle Ridge.
