The first burial in the Jerome Cemetery was recorded in the year 1909. Since that time the cemetery has grown to serve the town and countryside surrounding Jerome. There is only one other cemetery in Jerome County and it is located in the east end of the county near Hazelton, Idaho. The Jerome Cemetery is owned and governed by a cemetery board of six members. They are Chairman, Bill Block, Secretary, Cleo C. Ambrose, Harry E. Wilson, Ted Diehl, Marshall Everheart, and Thomas Newman. Mrs. Cleo (Helen) Ambrose also serves as Secretary with her Husband. Sexton for the cemetery is Lowell Van Orman. The cemetery is located one-half mile south and one- half mile west of the center of Jerome. It has many beautiful trees and shrubs and is entirely grass covered. The cemetery is divided into four subdivisions which are: Subdivision No. l ---- Pine View Subdivision No. 2 ---- Pleasent View Subdivision No. 3 ---- Meadow View Subdivision No. 4 ---- Mountain View There is also one mausoleum in the cemetery. We began the job of compiling the cemetery records in the summer of 1990. The information is on burials from 1909 to July 31, 199l. Information was taken from the Cemetery Burial Record Books, and also from the headstones at the gravesites. We only listed the spouses that share stones, or the individual stones that listed their spouses on them. There are undoubtedly many with individual stones that did not list their relationship to each other. Where there were second marriages we knew of we, made a note to that effect. Some burials were much later than the death, which in some cases were servicemen who were returned for burial here. Some also have been reinterned here from other burial sites. There are a few which we did not find burial dates for. Some years in the burial records the death date was listed rather than the burial date. Therefore the death date and burial date are the same on some of the records. We have tried to make it as accurate as humanly possible and hope it will be of help to anyone researching cemetery records for this area. We would like to thank Cleo and Helen Ambrose for letting us use the burial record books and for their help.
