(Bill) Anderson, 87, passed away July 21, 2005 at LaCrosse Health and Rehabilitation Center in Coeur d'Alene. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane; son and daughter-in-law, Col. Frank and Kay Anderson of Dallas; daughter and son-in-law Victoria and Ken Roberge; and granddaughters Katie and Hailey Roberge, Coeur d'Alene. Bill was born June 17, 1918, in San Francisco, to Frank E. and Grace Woodward Anderson. He graduated from Burbank High School, then moved to Honolulu to join his father and stepmother Zella, as co-owners of a large indoor amusement center that served both the military and civilians from 1939-49. Bill and his parents were living on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. As a young man, Bill joined the Elks Lodge 616 in 1940, and in 1941, he joined Oceanie de la Progre Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Aloha Temple Shrine. Upon his return to the Los Angeles area, Bill married Jane Baughman on June 28, 1952. Their love of skiing brought them together through the Deauxville Ski & Beach Club. From 1960-86, they lived in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., where they raised their two children. Bill was active with his son in the Boy Scouts of America. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his unending volunteer contributions. Bill and Jane retired to the Palm Springs, Calif., area, where they lived for 10 years, before relocating to Spokane in 1995. They loved to travel with friends throughout the West in their Alfa trailer. Bill was very active with the California-Hawaii Elks Association Americanism program and continued his work in Spokane with Elks Lodge 228. He was the State Americanism chairman for seven years with the Washington State Elks Association. He also organized an American Pledge of Allegiance and Flag Education program for elementary schools and community libraries throughout the Northwest. Bill and Jane moved to Coeur d'Alene in 2000 and continued to be active with the Elks Americanism programs. Bill became an associate member of Coeur d'Alene Elks Lodge 1254. He was an avid Elks pin collector and trader, and has an extensive collection of more than 13,000 pins representing lodges throughout North America. Cremation was conducted by English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d'Alene. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Greater Spokane Lodge 228, 2605 Robie Road, Spokane 99206, (509) 926-2328.
