Izzy was born Oct. 28, 1922, in Dodson, Mont., to George and Ann (Arvette) Briant. The family moved in 1927 to Hawkins, Wis., where she later met and married Stanley J. Grygny. They moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1953. After raising their family, Izzy became a registered nurse and moved to the West Coast shortly after the death of her husband. She later married Edward Gierlach and moved back to Idaho. In retirement, Izzy enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, fishing, traveling to the Oregon coast, and being an avid Mariners fan. She especially enjoyed making quilts and crocheting items for her family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Stanley J. Grygny and Edward Gierlach, son Stanley John Grygny, brother Alden Briant, and grandson Edward A. Quick. Izzy is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Janette and Mervin Buffington of Centralia, Wash., Katherine and Edward Quick, Vancouver, Wash., Bonnie and Dennis K. Williams, Hayden, Marcine and Larry Wood, Lewiston; brother Ray Briant, Banning, Calif.; sisters Dora O'Conner, Milwaukee, and Lillian Moore Lind, Seaside, Ore.; numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Oct. 8 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d'Alene. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene, is in charge of arrangements.
