Steve was born Feb. 28, 1959, in Lualow, Mass., where his father was stationed in the Air Force. The family was stationed at various military bases around the country until his family settled in Spokane, where Steve attended Shadle Park High School, graduating with the class of 1977. Steve went on to Eastern Washington University, getting his bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Honolulu for several years. He was employed as a security officer. Upon returning to the mainland, Steve began his long and highly successful career as an insurance litigator. This career led him to live in Missoula, Mont., Boise, and finally, Denver. He became known in his profession as being quick-minded, highly verbal, and very persuasive in negotiations. His professional colleagues came to rely upon his analytical mind that was tempered by a passionate drive to provide appropriate care for his clientele. Steve moved to Coeur d'Alene in Oct. 2003 to be with his life partner, Jolene Earin. Since that time, he volunteered his services as a public adjuster to whomever needed his expertise. Steve's athletic endeavors spanned over a decade-long history of competing on the national and international level of cycling, swimming and running. He successfully completed a number of Ironman challenges during his athletic career. Steve's gift with animals led many to believe that his greater calling may have been to be a pet and/or animal therapist. He was preceded in death by his father, Lt. Colonel Lyle L. Bulmer. Steve leaves behind his mother, Joan Bulmer, brother Stan Bulmer, sister-in- law Nancy Bulmer, along with two nephews and one niece, all of Spokane; John and Julie Ross, along with John and Leslie Atchison, who were friends, who served as family for Steve. He also leaves behind his life partner, Jolene Earin, and her children Brooke and Davon Sjostrom, Nicole and Robin Chang, Damon Earin, and his beloved dog, Cubby, who all became an integral part of his life in Coeur d'Alene. Memorial service to celebrate Steve's life will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at Beacon's Point beach along the Centennial Trail on beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene Drive.
