Covey, 76 Gene F. Covey, 76, passed away Dec. 17, 2005, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Wallace United Church of Christ Congregational, with Rev. Paul Hegg officiating. Burial will be at Osburn Cemetery. Shoshone Funeral Services of Kellogg and Wallace is in charge of arrangements. Gene was born Sept. 17, 1929, at Anaconda, Mont., the third son of Clarence and Winnie (Mitcham) Covey. Gene received his bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, and after serving in the Navy, he moved to the Silver Valley in 1953. Gene worked for the Galena Mine as a shift boss for 38 years. He retired in 1990. After his retirement, Gene and Lucy spent their winters in Arizona, where they had just finished a lovely little home. They also enjoyed four-wheeling and gold-panning in Arizona. Gene was a very active member and past Grand Master of the Cataldo (Wardner) Masonic Lodge 34 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Shriners, Wallace Elks and Osburn Community Baptist Church. Gene loved and enjoyed his family, boating and water skiing on Lake Coeur d'Alene. And in his later years, he enjoyed riding his gold-wing motorcycle with wife Lucy and going on snowmobile rides. In the last 20 years, Gene also enjoyed building cedar chests and woodworking. Survivors include his wife Lucy Covey at the family home in Osburn; daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn Corthell, Portland, Cathy and Kaye Reese, Las Vegas; son and daughter in law, Stan and Leslie Covey, Lake Coeur d'Alene; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; sister Jeanette Pierce, Coeur d'Alene; nephew Terry Spencer, Redding, Calif. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Elmer and Clayton Spencer. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Osburn Community Baptist Church or to the Silver Wood Good Samaritan Center of Silverton.
