June 19 1967. Cd' A Resident Who Came Here in 1890 Succumbs Charles L. Dittemore, 97, a resident here since 1890 and long identified with activities of the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce, died Saturday night. His death occured at Pinewood Manor where he had been a patient for more than three years. Mr. Dittemore served as secretary of the Coeur d' Alene Chamber of Commerce for many years, and also was active in his promotion for good roads in the area, which merited him the nickname of "Good Roads Charlie." His interests in such affairs continued until ill health intervened. He was a life member of the North Idaho Chamber of Commerce and also a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Dittemore, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs L. T. Dittemore, was born in Healdsburg, Calif., Feb 17, 1870, and with his family moved to Dayton, Wash. in 1878, making the trip by covered wagon. He received his high school education at Dayton, graduating in 1888, after which he served as an apprentice printer. He visited Coeur d' Alene in 1889 and a year later he attracted his parents here, the family residing north of Coeur d' Alene. Shortly after The Coeur d' Alene press was founded in 1892, he was employed by L. T. Scott, editor, and in the next seven years he filled numerous positions from printer's devil to editor. In 1900 he joined E. B. Keilor in the grocery business, the store occupying several downtown locations. In later years he was associated with the late John W. Boothe in the real estate and insurance business. Mr. Dittemore's wife Gertrude, died here Nov. 24, 1960.
