Freeman, 72 Stephen L. Freeman, 72, 35-year resident of North Idaho, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at his home in Springhill, La. Steve moved from Post Falls to Springhill in August 2005 to be near his brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Raleigh, Miss., on April 2, 1933, to Ruby and Earl Freeman, he grew up in Mississippi and then joined the Air Force in 1951. While in the service, Steve was stationed at Fairchild Air force Base in Spokane, where he met and married Barbara (Archer) Freeman, his former wife of 38 years. The couple settled in Spokane, where he worked for Safeway as a regional produce buyer. In 1974, Steve left Safeway and went to work as a shift supervisor for Potlatch Corporation, until his retirement in 1993. Steve was a hard worker who, with only an eighth-grade education, advanced to supervisory positions in every job he held. As a young man, Steve enjoyed bird hunting, stream fishing and camping with his family and his brother-in-law, Donald Nelson of Oldtown. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion, Elks and Eagles, and was a proud veteran. An excellent card player, he was especially skilled at pinochle and cribbage. He delighted in counting cards and predicting which card would be played next. Steve loved bluegrass and country music, especially Flatt and Scruggs and George Jones. He is survived by his former wife, Barbara Freeman of Priest River; daughters Linette Freeman, Hayden, and Donna Simon, Post Falls; son Jayson Freeman, Coeur d'Alene; granddaughter Chynna Simon, Post Falls; sisters Nola "Earlene" Foster, Sarepta, La., and Lillian "Lavonne" Meadows, Odessa, Texas; brothers Prentiss Escar Freeman, Epps, La., Jimmy Earl Freeman, Bradley, Ark., Richard Freeman, Hayden, and Gary Freeman, Tallulah, La.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
