Hamper, 84, Hayden, died Aug. 22, 2005, after a long illness, with his daughter by his bedside. He was born in Cleveland on Sept. 7, 1920, to William and Mary (Beckett) Hamper. Ed lost the love of his life, Janice, four months ago to cancer. They were married Jan. 11, 1947, and had lived in Cleveland, Chicago and Southern California. They raised five children and spent a lot of time camping, hiking and swimming on vacations. Ed and Jan loved to travel and went to Europe and Hawaii. They were very active and loved square dancing and ballroom dancing. Ed was a veteran in the Army in World War II. For 25 years, he worked in the aerospace industry as an electronic technician. He also loved to work around the house, or at least, Jan thought he did. She was always coming up with "small" projects for him. Ed had a great sense of humor -- of course, a lot of times, we really didn't get it. Jan always called it a "dry sense of humor." Even with all of the health problems he had, we never heard him complain. Because of their love for traveling, they decided to become full-time RVers and traveled the country, where they met many wonderful people. They came to Coeur d'Alene, fell in love with the area, and settled in Hayden 16 years ago. Ed and Jan became involved with Lake City Senior Center in Coeur d'Alene, where they enjoyed playing pinochle and bridge with the many friends they met there. Ed is survived by his sons, Ed (Norine) Hamper and Al (Joan) Hamper; daughter Twila Baker; grandchildren Eddie (Rachel) Hamper, Tony Neal, Tricia (Adam) Love, Diane (Eric) Horne, Estella Aguilar, Stephanie (Paul) Scott, Samantha Baker, Josh Baker; great-grandchildren Aaron, Samantha, Jason, Payton, Isaac, Allison and Luke. Ed's beloved wife, Janice, daughter Rosie Neal and son David Hamper preceded him in death. The family would like to thank their very good friend, Kathy "Katie" Burnworth and her dog, Misty, for their love, companionship and help with our father during the last couple of months. Memorial service will be 12:45 p.m. Aug. 26 at Lake City Senior Center, 1916 Lakewood Dr., Coeur d'Alene 83814, to where donations may be made in lieu of flowers.
