"Curley" Heisel, 84, of Coeur d'Alene, died Oct. 25, 2005, at LaCrosse Health and Rehabilitation Center in Coeur d'Alene. He was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Worley, Idaho, to Hugh and Bernidine (Pullin) Heisel. Curley was raised in Coeur d'Alene and continued to live here for a number of years. During this time he worked on the construction of Farragut Naval Base and also fished commercially on Lake Pend Oreille. In 1940 he moved the family to Mullan, Idaho, where he worked in the mines before owning two service stations and the first towing company to have a wrecker on Lookout Pass. The family returned to Coeur d'Alene in 1958. Curley continued working in the mines until an injury forced his retirement. Later, he became the owner/operator of several area restaurants/taverns, the Appleway Cafe, Pine Creek Tavern and the Road Runner. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, driving stock cars and he just loved to whistle. Curley was also a past member of the Coeur d'Alene Eagles. He is survived by sons, Herbert L. Heisel and Loren G. Heisel, both of Coeur d'Alene; daughters Sharyn L. Workman of Post Falls and Lisa L. Heisel of Coeur d'Alene; longtime companion Dolly Mader of Coeur d'Alene; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Heisel. Visitation will be from noon to 1:50 p.m. Nov. 1 at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. The funeral service will follow at the chapel beginning at 2 p.m. A private burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
