Henderson, 78 Lillian B. Henderson, 78, died peacefully at Kootenai Medical Center on Sept. 7, 2005, following a two-year struggle with pancreatic cancer. Memorial service will be 4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Post Falls Community Presbyterian Church, 417 N. William St. Cemetery services will be private. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Lillian was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Chicago. She was the youngest of five children of Joseph and Jenny Bedrich, who had immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia in 1906. In 1949, Lillian married Frank N. Henderson. They would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Nov. 5 of this year. She is survived by her husband and their children and spouses: Deborah (Carey) Parnell, Fresno, Calif., Stephen (Marianne), Tucson, Ariz., Jennifer (Steve) Amaya, Thousand Oaks, Calif., Thomas (Eileen), Ely, Nev., and Jane (Steve) Mamer, Platteville, Colo. Lillian is also survived by older brother Otto Bedrich, Chicago. She has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Lillian attended Wright Junior College in Chicago and Foothill College in Palo Alto, Calif. At the time of her marriage, she was employed as a medical laboratory technician in the research department of Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, where she assisted studies that led to development of a diagnostic process now widely used to detect cervical cancer. Lillian and Frank lived for many years in Madison, Wis., Los Altos Hills, Calif., and Broomfield, Colo., before moving to Post Falls in September 1976, when they purchased the Post Falls Tribune newspaper. After her husband's retirement from public office, Lillian assisted him as a consultant to newly independent governments in Eastern Europe and Russia, where she helped him train local leaders on how to establish a representative form of government and to stimulate a free-enterprise economy. While on those assignments, Lillian also worked as a volunteer English language instructor in the local schools. Locally, Lillian is widely known for her volunteer work at the Post Falls Public Library and its Twice Told Tales used book store. She also served hundreds of volunteer hours as a "cuddler" in the newborn nursery at Kootenai Medical Center. Lillian's family has established a special fund to honor her library work and her desire for children to read and love books at an early age. The fund, named "Lillian's Library for Little-Ones," will be managed by the trustees of the Post Falls Public Library and used to enhance its established children's program. The fund will perpetuate Lillian's lifelong efforts. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that friends who wish to add to her memorial can make contributions to the new fund at the library located at Spokane and Mullen streets in Post Falls, 83854.
