She was born in Montrose, Colo., on Oct. 29, 1924, and grew up in Prineville and Bend, Ore. After World War II, Vivian worked as an aircraft mechanic at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif., where she met Charles Hoffman. They were married in 1952 and together had six children: Michael (Margaret) of Kodiak, Alaska, Audi (Jim) Fehling, Post Falls, Butch, Coeur d'Alene, Glenndon (Belle), Rathdrum, Charlotte (Philip) Malberg, Pullman, Wash., Roberta (Chuck) McKinney, Auburn, Calif. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. In her younger years, Vivian loved music, and dancing the jitterbug was one of her favorite hobbies. In addition to raising their own family, Vivian also cared for many foster children over the years, and at one time she had 11 children in the house. She also received the well-deserved honor of being named "Mother of the Year" in our small town. The family was active in 4-H, and Vivian enjoyed gardening, raising animals and cooking on their small farm. Vivian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chuck, in Sept. 2004. Vivian and Chuck loved to fish and lived at Garfield Bay on Lake Pend Oreille for 28 years before moving to Hayden in 1999. Her greatest love was working in her flower and vegetable gardens. They were a sight to see. Vivian will be greatly missed forever by her family and friends. Private memorial service will be Sept. 4 at the family home.
