Clara was born Sept. 19, 1933, in Buffalo Gap, S.D., to Ruben Kain of West Chester, Tenn., and Anna Wilson of Ames, Iowa. She married Roy June 5, 1955, then moved to Post Falls in 1959. In 1963, they adopted a beautiful baby girl they named Doris Marie. In 1966, they adopted another baby girl they named Carol Ann. Clara's grandchildren from Doris are James, Amanda and Heather McDonnell; from Carol came Robert III and Christina Shepler and Thomas Lowery. She also had two children she "adopted" as her grandchildren, Robert (Bobby) Benson (killed in Iraq) and Travis Schierman. Clara owned a daycare from 1980 to 1995, when she retired to take care of her ailing husband, Roy. Roy passed away in 1999, so Clara put her care-taking skills to use by becoming a certified nursing assistant in 2000. She finished training with an 87.8 GPA and was certified Sept. 9, 2000. Clara also enjoyed making quilts for her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She retired from nursing in 2003 due to illness. In 2004, she had to have a pacemaker and she was never really healthy again. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. Clara now joins Roy and Bobby in peace and health forever. She also joins her mom, dad, brother Wesley and sister Dorothy. Clara is survived by her sisters, Doris Miller, Shirley Dodd and Irene Laughtenslager; two daughters; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren from James and wife Stephanie, (twins) Lucas James and Trinity Faith born July 29, 2005. Clara missed meeting Lucas and Trinity except by photos. The family will be sure they know how much Clara loved them even before they were born. There will be a celebration of her life at her home in Post Falls, 5 p.m. Aug. 5, potluck style. Please bring your favorite dish. Contributions in Clara's name may be made to donor's favorite charity. She was loved much and will be missed greatly.
