Kelly, 85 Lowell G. Kelly, 85, passed away Nov. 22, 2005, at the Idaho State Veterans Home. Services will be held at a later date. Lowell was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, where he spent his childhood, before joining the Marine Corps on Nov. 19, 1941. During his time in the Marines, he participated in the invasion of four Pacific Islands. Lowell was discharged on Nov. 9, 1945. After his discharge, he married Ruby M. Kelly, from whom he was later divorced. He attended police officer training at the University of Iowa. After graduation, Lowell was appointed assistant chief of police in Iowa Falls. He also earned his private pilot's license while living in Iowa. Lowell joined the Air Force on May 12, 1957, and served until his retirement on June 11, 1963. He was awarded several medals and commendations from his service in both the Marines and Air Force. On Sept. 23, 1955, Lowell married Helen Kohler in Coeur d'Alene. They lived at several air bases in the United States and Puerto Rico. After Lowell's discharge, they retired to Hayden. The Coeur d'Alene School District then employed him, until his final retirement in 1985. When Lowell retired from the district, he received a plaque from the students and a certificate of commendation from Gov. Evans. After Helen's passing, he moved to Boise and has resided at the Idaho State Veterans Home for the past 10 years. Lowell was a member of the VFW Post 889 and the Coeur d'Alene Eagles Lodge. In addition to his wife, Helen, he was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Kelly, brothers John and Charles. Lowell is survived by his nieces, Audrey (Lenny) Parks of Meridian, Donna Bartlett, Iowa Falls, and stepson Ben (Barbara) Kohler, Boise. He is also survived by an extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Idaho State Veteran's Home for the wonderful, loving care Lowell had received these many years.
