Knepper, 72 Denis F. Knepper, 72, Coeur d'Alene, died Nov. 25, 2005, in Tucson, Ariz. Born June 27, 1933, in Wentworth, S.D., to Bryant and Jennie June (Phillips) Knepper, Denis graduated in 1951 from Lemmon High School in South Dakota and 1955 from South Dakota State University. He went immediately into the Air Force and received navigator/bombardier training at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston in 1956. Denis was stationed at Mather AFB in California and Mountain Home AFB in Idaho flying B-47s from 1956 through 1960. From 1960 to 1970, he lived in Pocatello, where he was in the Air Force Reserves out of Hill AFB in Ogden, Utah, flying C-119s. Denis was also an independent insurance agent and claims adjuster. He and his family moved in 1970 to Coeur d'Alene, where he transferred to the Washington Air National Guard, Geiger Field, in Spokane, flying KC-135 Tankers and F- 101s. He retired as a major after more than 20 years of service. Denis continued his career in insurance and drove a school bus for the Coeur d'Alene School District for 10 years. An active member in many organizations, he was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889 in Coeur d'Alene, and was post commander from 1976-77. Denis was also a life member of the Military Order of the Cootie, an honor degree of VFW Idaho Pup Tent 3; member of the Wentworth, S.D. American Legion; 50-year member of the Brookings, S.D. Masonic Lodge, and also a member of both Coeur d'Alene Scottish Rite and Rathdrum Lodge 41. A Shriner with the Lewiston Calam Temple and member of the Legion of Honor, Denis belonged to the Coeur d'Alene, South Spokane and Shoshone County Shrine clubs and was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 62. After joining the Elks in southern Idaho more than 40 years ago, he was a recent member of the Coeur d'Alene Elks Lodge 1254 and long-term member of the Coeur d'Alene Eagles Lodge 486. Denis was preceded in death by his parents and son Mike Knepper. Survivors include his wife Glenna Knepper, Coeur d'Alene; former wife Freida Knepper, Emmett, Idaho; daughter Heidi Knepper and partner Kathryn, Syracuse, N.Y.; daughter Wendy (Alan) Mixon and granddaughters Campbell and Ashlynn Mixon, Ft. Collins, Colo.; sister Sharon (Jerry) Reinan, Ft. Collins, sister Nancy (Denny) Scott, Trinidad, Colo.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Dec. 17 at Coeur d'Alene Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., with Pastor Katy McCallum-Sachse officiating. Following the service, a wake will be held on the main floor of the Coeur d'Alene Eagles Lodge, 209 E. Sherman Ave. Internment with full military honors will follow at Forest Cemetery. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, is entrusted with arrangements. The family requests memorials to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 2472, Spokane, WA 99210-2472.
