She was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Superior, Mont., to Thomas B, and Leona M. (McLaughlin) Miles. At age 10, after breaking her leg, she contracted osteomyelitis in her right leg. She spent many months, off and on, at Shriners Hospital in Spokane, until she was 18. On March 15, 1947, Barbara married her lifelong love, Jack E. Scott, in Missoula, Mont., and soon after, they made their home in Wallace. She was a homemaker her entire life, making sure everyone was always taken care of. Barbara was a den mother for her son's Cub Scout den, meeting with them at her home each week. She loved her family, gardening, trips to the Oregon coast, stream fishing, cooking, crocheting, painting, and most of all, visiting with family and friends. In 1997, she moved to Coeur d'Alene to be closer to her son and his family. Preceding Barbara in death were her beloved husband, Jack, in 1987, cherished son, Craig, in 1990, her parents, sister Gwen Manthie, and brothers Roy and Ray Miles.Survivors include Barbara's son Kirk and wife Danielle; granddaughter Katherine; and grandsons Christopher, Shaun and wife Janet. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Ann and husband Sandy Guttu, Seattle, Betty Sandstrom, Superior, Mont., Patricia and husband Gary Woodson, Superior, Mont., Janet Yount, Gresham, Ore.; brother Patrick Miles, Superior, Mont.; brother-in-law James E. and wife Miko Scott, Pittsburgh, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She made friends wherever she went; most recently during her stay at Life Care Center in Coeur d'Alene. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sept. 3 at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene. Potluck gathering will follow at 606 Sunrise Drive, Coeur d'Alene. Private inurnment will be held at Day Cemetery in Osburn. The family suggests memorials to Spokane Shriners Hospital, 911 W. Fifth Ave. Spokane, WA, 99204-2901.
