He was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Arkansas City, Kan., to Max and Fauna (White) Miller. He served his country honorably in World War II from 1942 until 1945 in the Army Air Corps. William married his loving wife, Merrill Babcock on Jan. 31, 1948, in Chicago. Dr. Miller graduated from Northwestern Medical School in 1950 and practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Pueblo, Colo., from 1955 to 1974. They moved in 1974 to Coeur d'Alene, where he continued to practice medicine until he retired in 1985. After retirement, he sold real estate in Coeur d'Alene and then moved to Sun Lakes, Ariz., in 1997. When his wife Merrill died in 2001, he moved back to Coeur d'Alene to be with family. Dr. Miller loved the outdoors and fishing and hunting with friends. He was an accomplished woodworker, silversmith, collector, computer geek and patriot. He enjoyed life and people, and would not hesitate to express his opinions. He was a good man, husband, father and friend. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his son William H. Miller Jr., M.D. and daughter-in-law, Dana of Coeur d'Alene; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Jack Lowery, Auburn, Calif., Lorraine and Allan Clark, Post Falls; grandchildren Kali and Jordan Clark, Willy, Zack, Rose and Buck Miller, EmmaRose and Hunter Lowery, and Kelly Lowery McClintock; great-grandchildren Halle and Owen McClintock. He was preceded in death by his brothers Max and Ted Miller. Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Dec. 30 at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel.
