She was born July 7, 1948, in Marshfield, Wis., to John and Fern (Stibbe) Novak. Rosemarie, as a child, moved with her family to Coeur d'Alene, where she attended St. Thomas School, then graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy. She moved to Portland after graduation to pursue a modeling career and then made her home in Spokane. Our mother, sister and friend left us suddenly. There are no words to describe how much she will be missed. Rea loved nature, and wildflowers were her favorite. She loved long walks and cooking. Her passions were reading and collecting books, and her constant companion and best friend was her dog, Sheba. She is survived by her sons, Bryce Novak of Olympia, Wash., Jeffrey Wood and wife Mindy, Spokane; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Dixie Novak, Davenport, Wash., Brad and Kerry Novak, Rathdrum; sisters Pam, Spokane, and Judy Krueger and husband Wes, Coeur d'Alene; and several nieces and nephews. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Aug. 6, and memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Aug. 8, both at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d'Alene. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene, in charge of arrangements. She was born to William Jeremiah Wood and Mary Elizabeth Wood on Nov. 18, 1917, in The Dalles, Ore. Martha worked picking cotton in the fields, and later on worked at a chicken factory. She married Jack Riggs on March 17, 1956, while he was stationed in Ft. Lewis, Wash. They moved to Idaho, where Martha worked at the Sunshine Cafe and the Maries Cafe. Martha is best known for holding the senior dances at the Post Falls Senior Center and in Spokane with her husband, Jack Riggs. She was also a member of The Hilliard Bells. Her hobby and love was for dancing. She is survived by numerous brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Riggs, who passed away on June 6, 1993. Martha and Jack are now reunited with one another and will forever live on in our hearts. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Aug. 7 at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Reception will follow the service at Yates Hayden Gathering Center.
