She was born Nov. 7, 1917, to Morgan and Ada (Leo) Remelin in Ellensburg, Wash., where she grew up, and then went to Yakima, Wash., where she graduated from high school. Betty attended Washington State University, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. On March 21, 1942, she married Leslie James in Everett, Wash., and Les served with the Navy during World War II. After the war, they made their home in Yakima, then moved to Spokane in 1952. Betty was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Spokane Valley. She enjoyed golf, quilting and playing cribbage with her late husband, Les. Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Mary Ellen James of Greenacres, Wash.; granddaughters Kristin James, Spokane Valley, and Lisa James, Greenacres; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband in March this year. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. July 29 at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway, Spokane Valley.
