Trudeaux, 71 James R. Trudeaux, 71, resident of Hoquiam, Wash., died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at the Ditton home in Hoquiam. Jim was born July 25, 1934, in Red Wing, Minn., to Hayes and Esther (Johnson) Trudeaux. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Quincy during the Korean War and was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska. Jim married Phyllis R. Roney in 1954 and they had six children together. He lived and worked as a trooper for the Washington State Patrol in Tacoma and Puyallup, prior to transferring to the Wishkah Valley in 1958. In 1969, Jim transferred to Omak, Wash., and in 1972, resigned his position as a Washington State patrolman. He moved to Coeur d'Alene and was married to Lois Reitz-Hustoft for 30 years. She died in 2002. In Coeur d'Alene, Jim was a deputy with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department. From 1975 through his death, he resided between Coeur d'Alene and Grays Harbor. Jim was an avid reader, history buff and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He also loved outdoor activities, including camping, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Coeur d'Alene Eagles and was a dedicated fan of Seattle Seahawks and WSU Cougars football. Another one of Jim's passions was flight, in which he learned to fly in 1970, and logged many hours flying in his Air Coupes above Washington and Idaho. Jim is survived by his sons, Kim Trudeaux of Santa Fe, N.M., James Trudeaux, Thomas Trudeaux, Omak; daughters Katherine Ferrell, Omak, Ruth Pati-o, Oregon City, Ore., Shannon Trudeaux, Seattle; stepchildren Howard Hustoft, Karen Gravelle, Connie Chalich, Coeur d'Alene, and Laurie Browne, Kirkland, Wash.; sisters Lois Barry and Alice Taylor, Redwing, Minn., and Betty Card, Altoona, Wis.; stepbrother Dick Langworthy, Redwing, Minn.; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his companion and caregiver, Belle Ditton of Hoquiam. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Jack Trudeaux in 2002, and wife Lois in 2002. "We will miss you, dad."
