He was born in Lake Preston, S.D., on Feb. 11, 1920, to Edith and Arthur Waddell. He married Elizabeth Lucille Meyers in 1948. They were married for 52 years. He and Betty are now reunited. Bud is survived by his son Mike Waddell, an operating engineer for Dix Corp., his wife Suzy and his daughter Mary Coffin and her husband Jon, both public school educators; grandchildren Jason and Rainey Coffin and Shawn and Carrie Waddell. He had 6 great-grandchildren. His sister Millie Miller resides in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Fredrickson. He spent most of his adult life in Airway Heights and Espanola. He had many friends and could be found most mornings having breakfast with "the guys" at the local restaurant. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1941. He was a member of the 37th bomb squadron, and served his country in the African and European theaters in WWII. He was affiliated for many years with the Barry Horton VFW in Airway Heights. Bud was a 55-year member of the Operating Engineer union. He was proud of his ability to run heavy equipment and worked on most of the highway projects in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. He worked on the construction of the third powerhouse at Grand Coulee Dam, on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation and the largest earthen dam ever built in South Dakota. His last 20 years were with the Max J. Kuney Company. His family wishes to thank the staff at the Spokane Veterans Home for the wonderful, loving care they provided. Because of Bud's great love of animals, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Spokane Humane Society. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 12 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
