Hal, born June 16, 1923, in Greeley, Colo., served his country during World War II in the Army in India and Burma and helped build the Stillwell Road there. He retired in 1985 as a data tech supervisor from the U.S. Postal Service. He loved to tinker, whether it was mechanical gadgets, woodworking or crossword puzzles. He also loved to read and was particularly fond of Louis L'amour books. He is survived by his ex-wife, Helen Zeis; sons David Zeis, Eugene, Ore.; Daryl Zeis (wife Marlene) Spokane; daughters: Laurie Bergheim, Vancouver, Wash., Linda Scotten (husband Ken), Newman Lake, Wash., Diane Zeis (husband Ron Raska), Spokane, and Danita Miller, Spokane; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Cleo Bithell of Deer Park, Wash., and Rita Hintermeister of Muscatine, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Andrew Wolverton Fund P.O. Box 21013, Spokane, WA 99201.
