It was late at night, and Mr. Ott was on his way to the section house,on the edge of town. When near the Shoshone House two strangers assailed him. One struck him on the temple with the stock of a revolver, ripping the flesh open for a length of three or four inches, and knocking him senseless. He was then dragged to the Little Wood River, which flows near by, and thrown into the river. The cold water brought him to, and he climbed onto a rock and cried lustily for help. This brought relief and the man was extricated from his perilous position. Robbery must have been the object of the assailants, as the man showed a large roll of bills in a saloon earlier in the evening. Luckily, however, Mr. Ott was prevailed upon to deposit his money in a merchant's safe before starting for home. The robbers therefore got nothing.
