Kraus, 8-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kraus, Rupert, drowned some time after 3 p.m. Sunday in an irrigation ditch about one- eighth of a mile behind the family home. The body was recovered about 8 p.m. by searchers, Sheriff Theo Johnson and State Patrolman Roy Thomas directed the search. They were assisted by Glenn Greer and Fred Rodgers, both with the bureau of reclamation, and laborers at the Labor camp. Apparently the boy had been playing alone. He was last seen about 3:30 p.m. but the family didn't become alarmed for about two hours. The search began about 5 p.m. The boy was found about 20 feet below the canal checks. He was born March 26 1954, in Rupert. He had attended Pioneer school and would have been in the third grade in the fall. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Gary and Jerald Kraus, maternal grandmother Mrs. Marie Weber and paternal grandfather, Lorens Kraus, Burley.
