Lapwai's Ernest Chapman Dies
Ernest Alexis Chapman , a resident of Lapwai for most of his life, died at 
6:15 Sat at St. Joseph's Hospital of complications of pneumonia.  He was 51.  
He had been in the hospital since Dec 27 and had been in poor health for about 
5 yrs.  Chapman was a member of the Nez Perce Indian Tribe and owned land in 
the Lapwai area and near Yakima, WA.  He was born April 4, 1925 at Lewiston, 
the sone of Jesse and Grace Kash Kash Chapman.  He first married Ruby Parsons, 
who died in 1965. Later he married Roberta Garrick.  Survivors in addition to 
his wife are 5 daughters, Cynthia F Scott ot Portland, Oregon., Ernestine 
Grace Chapman of Lapwai, Ann Judy Morrell or Lewiston, Lori wessel of Victor 
Montana., and Debra Chapman of Couer d'Alene. Two sons, Joseph A. and Dean D 
Chapman both of Coeur d'Alene: four sisters, Delored Willig of Lewiston, 
Carrie Nightwalker and Anna Chapman , both of Cayuse, Oregon and Lyrone 
Chapman of Parker, Washington and six grandchildren.  Funeral arrangements are 
pending at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home.
