W. Ellis PAYETTE’S PIONEER DRUG STORE. (Ben Reed, Proprietor.) Twenty years ago, when the village of Payette consisted of a few houses clustered on the bank of the river, near where bridges now span the stream, a small drug store was established by J. F. Reed, one of the early pioneers to this part of the Snake River valley. Mr. Reed’s business grew with the settlement, and finally his son, the present proprietor, became an invaluable helper in attending to the demands of the fast increasing trade. Three years ago Ben Reed succeeded his father and moved to his present location, where he added new lines of stationery, toilet articles, perfumes, and a large and handsome soda fountain, and opened his new store for business on a larger and broader scale than before. So thorough and painstaking has been Mr. Reed in selecting his new goods, that he now has a stock which for completeness and freshness stands foremost among the drug stocks of the town, and the cheerful greeting and courteous attention extended alike to all has won hosts of friends and well-wisher for this pioneer drug store of Payette. In 1903 he took into life partnership, Miss L. V. Bradley of Grant’s Pass, Oregon, an estimable young lady, who is his chief confidant and advisor. In a salesroom adjoining the store of her husband, Mrs. Reed has a choice stock of millinery, the largest and most complete stock of its kind in Payette, where she is devoting her time and artistic taste to the milinery needs of the wives and children of the community, and with gratifying success.
