After about two years a more convenient meeting place was desired but nothing more suitable could be found. The hope of a small edifice of their own began to materialize with the gift of a building lot by Hon. Peter Pence and brick enough for the building offered by Mr. Wm. F. Sherwood. Other generous gifts and subscriptions followed and the building was erected on the present site at No. 215 North Ninth St. It was thought advisable at this time to incorporate as First Church of Christ Scientist of Payette, and the Articles of Incorporation were taken out in March 1907. The first service in the church was held Dec. 15, of that year. It was in the summer of 1917 that the building debt was fully paid and dedication services were held Aug. 5th. The church has continued to hold regular Sunday and Wednesday evening services during these years and has participated in the usual activities of the Christian Science Movement, maintaining a free Reading room for the use of the public, where the Bible and the works of Rev. Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science are kept for sale or may be read or borrowed. It has also maintained a free circulating library of Authorized Christian Science literature. An annual free lecture on Christian Science has also been given by a member of the Board of Lectureship of the First Church of Christ Scientist, the Mother Church of Christian Science, in Boston, Mass. The purpose of these lectures being to correct wrong impressions and present the truth clearly. The members have rejoiced in the opportunity for service afford through this organization.
