Augusten was the defendant charged with dissertion and non-support of his wife and two small children. The case lasted until a late evening session, the jury however rendered a verdict of guilty after but a few moments deliberation. Failing to give a bond after the elapse of forty-eight hours, in the sum of $500 as a guarantee of payment of $50.00 per month for a period of six months in support of the wife and children, the court imposed a fine of $300 and a sentence of six months in the county jail.
