L.A. Walker came in from six miles below town and reports that on Judge Houston's place the alfalfa and potatoes were cut down, and on the Fitchman, Jimerson, Toole and other places the melons were hurt. J. C. McCracken said ice was made on the bench land south but no harm was done to the melons. H. A. Barder is in from Pine creek, north of Cambridge, where he and his father have a sawmill which they will start up this week and will work 12 to 15 men during the summer. Peter Butler and family, with a car of goods, arrived this morning from Utah. H. A. Rebentisch and wife came in this morning and went out to look at he Brown ranch with the intention of buying. M. Lathrop, W.C. Tyson, J.L. Tyson, and D. M. Cain all started today for the Seven Devils to do assessment work on their claims 15 miles north of Decorah. Walter Curry is wanted here. A warrant was issued last Monday for petit larceny. He went to George VanDoozer's and took two sets of harness belonging to J.M. Burlingham.
