The reopening of the Hotel Idaho last Saturday evening by Mr. H. F. Parke, the new manager, was a pleasant affair. During the early hours of the evening a cordial reception was tendered to the citizens of Payette by Mr. Parke and family. The Payette Band in full uniform was on hand to honor the occasion with some of its most stirring selections and the spacious parlor with its happy throng presented a scene that reminded one of the palmy days when Major Allen first threw the house open to the public and made it one of the most popular hostelries on the Oregon Short Line. After light refreshments had been served and the gentlemen had enjoyed a good cigar the large dining room was cleared of tables and half a hundred people joined in a delightful dance until the hour-hand pointed to 12 o’clock. It was a good, old fashioned time such as Payette people know how to have when they get started off on the right foot, and was enjoyed by old and young alike; jolly old boys with frosted locks, at the risk of slipping a stifle-joint, mingled in the mazy whirl and gave the youngsters lesson in chivalry. It was an evening well spent and upon taking their departure each one extended the hand of congratulations and words of hearty welcome and best wishes to Mr. Parke and family, who have lately become citizens of our town.
