M. Krost for Operation in Valley. E. M. Krost, who has operated extensively with a threshing outfit in the Payette Valley, has received a new clover and alfalfa huller, the first machine of the kinds to be brought to the Payette Valley. It was purchased through Giesler Brothers and is of large capacity and up-to-date pattern. The advent of the machine is of much importance to this vicinity as the raising of clover and alfalfa for seed is known to be very profitable. In speaking of it, J. C. Giesler informed a representative of the INDEPENDENT that a few years ago he secured 102 bushels of alfalfa seed from 8 acres of ground on the ranch he formerly owned below town, and that, too, when he had to run the alfalfa through a grain separator and fan it out afterwards, making a large percentage of loss. At the present prices he would have received considerably over $600 for the seed. With a huller such as Mr. Krost has received the seed is taken from the alfalfa in fine condition ready for commercial use. Mr. Giesler stated that he was recently informed by P. E. Anderson of Parma, where a small huller has been in operation, that he had received $732 for seed taken from alfalfa raised on 12 acres. Then also the straw after the seed has been threshed out is valuble as feed for stock.
