B. Orcutt was in Payette Monday on business matters and to meet a few of his many Payette friends. He came from Wenatchee a few days ago, and will make his home for the winter at the home of his daughter in Weiser. While here Mr. Orcutt related a sad incident that occurred a few days before Christmas near Omak, Washington, about one hundred miles north of Wenatchee, while he was there on business matters. A boy, 13 years of age, was killed by a cougar. The lad was with other parties when the car in which they were riding became disabled, and on going for help, cut through a canyon in the mountain country, but did not reach his destination. His mangled body partly eaten was found by the parties the following day. The animal is an exceptionally large one, and has been the terror of that section for some time. Since the tragedy occurred, expert hunters have been brought into that section from British Columbia to run down the savage beast, but up to a recent date had not been successful. One dog belonging to the hunting party was killed by the cougar.
