A St. Paul, Minn., dispatch of the 21st says: The homeseekers’ half-fare rate on the trans-continental lines went into effect today. The Northern Pacific and the Great Northern were compelled to double their facilities in order to handle the crowd. Not less than 5000 people took advantage of low rates and the Great Northern sent out an extra train at noon while the Northern Pacific was compelled to add a second section to its through trains. The railroad officials report that many of the travelers bought only one way tickets, which is taken as an indication of an intention to locate permanently in the west.
