The Boise Statesman of this (Friday) morning publishes the following dispatch from Weiser: “This town is now in the midst of a sensation caused by the arrest of Tim Driscoll, the well known sheep man of Payette, and one of his herders, Robert Nyfoam. “They were arrested by Sheriff Adams on the charge of stealing and changing brands on about 400 sheep. “The arrest was made on complaint of Newton Griffith, the owner of the sheep. “Griffith and Driscoll had been ranging their sheep in the Seven Devils district and during a storm in September about 400 held of Griffith’s sheep were missing. “Griffith and his men began a quiet search and they were finally found, it is alleged, in one of Driscoll’s bands on the Bud Dickerson ranch, near town. “Eighty-five head, it is said, have positively identified, with the brands changed. A warrant was at once sworn out for Driscoll and two of his herders, William Palmer and Robert Nyfoam. Driscoll and Nyfoam were arrested but Palmer escaped. Driscoll gave a $500 bond to appear for trial next Saturday before Probate Judge Jeffreys.” The INDEPENDENT has not seen Mr. Driscoll, but is informed he has announced that the charge is without foundation and that he expects to make it exceedingly interesting for the parties who have instituted the prosecution. His many friends in Payette, where he has lived for over ten years, a prominent and well respected citizen, feel confident that he will have no trouble in clearing himself from any imputation of guilt in the matter.
