A. Stegner, of this place, came near drowning in the back water of the Snake river, near the A. H. Ramey place. Carl, with a number of others, was skating when the ice broke, landing him in the water. He could not swim, but kept his head above water by grabbing to the ice as it broke off. The boys who were with him managed, by means of poles, to finally pull him out. He was taken to the home of Mr. Miller and his wet clothing removed and is none the worse for his experience.
