New Plymouth Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary

The Golden Wedding anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. John Applegate, 
of New Plymouth, Idaho, was celebrated at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pence 
in Payette Sunday.  Mrs. Pence is the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Applegate 
whose marriage on November 4, 1883, was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. 
W. C. Johnson, a sister of the bride, Miss Betty King.  They are the only 
children of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. King, who came to Idaho in 1869.  Mr. and Mrs. 
King came into Ogden, Utah, on the first train carrying passengers to that 
place, and made the rest of the journey by stage to the Payette Valley.  

The groom is the son of the Rev. S. W. Applegate, also a pioneer of the early 
days of Idaho, having come to Payette in 1864.

Present at the celebration were Mrs. Annie Applegate, widow of the Reverend S. 
W. Applegate and Mrs. Mary Wilson, sister of the groom, who are the only 
surviving members of the original wedding party.  The family of the bride and 
groom were all present at the reunion, Mrs. Harry Pence, Payette, and Mrs. 
Nellie Manis of McCall, Idaho, and four sons, James, George, Samuel and John 
with their families.  

There are twelve grandchildren and one great grand child, nine of whom were 
present.  Twenty-seven members of the family were present at the anniversary 
and a wonderful wedding dinner was served.  Piano and violin solos were 
furnished by Mrs. Homer Judy and Miss Edith Applegate during the afternoon.
