R. Achber, M. A., an English architect, when traveling in this county on behalf of the National Trust for places of historic interest and natural beauty says, in Munsey's October number: "In all the cities and townlets I have passed through, there has always been some characteristic feature, the making or tending of which by the citizens would seem to represent their measure of wisdom or folly, of good taste or indifference of enlightened forethought or untutored extravagance." Especially is this so in the matter of educational buildings and in the townlets the school building environs represents the wisdom, progressiveness and unity of the inhabitants. The people of New Plymouth have shown their appreciation of this in planning their new school house. The building has just been completed and on last Saturday the contractors, Ryan & Carr of Weiser, turned it over to the school board, a finished product which redounds to their ability as artists in their line of work. It is a one story brick 30x50 feet, so constructed as to permit the raising of another story should necessity demand it in the future. The floor space is divided into two rooms 18x30, a cloak room 9x28, and a room at the rear 9x9. The latter room is one of the unique features of the school and seems almost an indispensable part of the school building. It is designated as the "Teacher's office." School opened this morning with 40 children in attendance. The school will be taught by Miss Lena Whiffen of Caldwell, a graduate of the College of Idaho.
