Payette Buys a Lot.

We want to congratulate the town council for having taken the first step 
towards procuring for Payette what every incorporated town should have, namely 
its own building, in which to transact the public business and keep such 
apparatus for protection against fire as it may from time to time require. We 
refer to the purchase of a lot, at the last meeting of the council.  This does 
not mean that the town will erect a public building at once, of course, because 
the money is not in sight with which to carry out such an undertaking.  But we 
understand the council is committed to the belief that the town must at no 
distant day own a public building for the purposes heretofore mentioned, and 
that affairs henceforth will be shaped to that end.  The council may rest 
assured of the fact that in this important move it has the support of all 
enterprising citizens.  

The lot selected for city purposes is the block opposite the INDEPENDENT 
building and is perhaps as good an inside lot as there is in town, the price 
paid is very reasonable.  Of the $500 appropriation as a real estate fund there 
is $340 left, which amount should be augmented by future appropriations until 
Payette has a city building and fire apparatus adequate to present demands at 
least.
