M. Anderson today sold a half interest in his First creek mine in Oregon to J. J. Peters & Co for $1500. This is a new district in which there are a number of other very promising mines. Frank Creighton has a bond on one which promises to be very rich. Edward P. Cowen a mine expert from the east will be here Friday morning to examine the placer mines in Smith gulch, discovered by Messrs. Smith, Orcutt, and Napton last summer. H. M. Williams commenced to build a 4-room cottage on Front street today for A. B. Moss. Houston Napton is just in from the Dry gulch oil field and reports the well down 1200 feet and indications very good for stricking oil soon. The drill is run day and night. Six men work at night and eight in the day time. Some of our wool-growers said their clip for 12 cents and are now kicking themselves for not coming to town and learning the price. Prof. M. F. Albert of the high school will be cashier of the Bank of commerce, the new bank which will be ready for business soon. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gieser have returned from Baker City. Walter Clevenger of Burns, Ore., was renewing old acquaintances yesterday. John Napton, a prosperous woolgrower of Clover Creek, Ore., was visiting his brother, J. S. Napton of this place Wednesday. J. O. McCracken went to Salt Lake on the evening train. Mrs. R. Wackenbager was called by telephone to Weiser on account of the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. J. Deadman. C. W. Cooper, a Caldwell capitalist, was a visitor here today. J. B. Casmos returned this morning from a visit to his old home in the east.
