The ordinance regarding the closing of the saloons on Sunday and at 11:30 p.m. was deferred to another meeting, for the council to consult legal advice. A new ordinance was presented by W. Noot asking the council to grant a franchise for a ditch on Grand and Front street. There is much opposition among the people to the granting of such a franchise. Mrs. Peter Pence was taken suddenly sick this afternoon about 2 o'clock with neuralgia of the heart and is now under the doctor's care. Miss Maggie Chatfield accidentally let a kerosene lamp fall on the hot cook stove this morning at the residence of Alex Edwards. A blaze started but was extinguished. J. H. Clear and family, Dan Pearce and family, all of Rugby, N.D., have arrived here and will make Idaho their home. Alexander Wells and wife returned this morning from a visit to their old home in Iowa. R. M. Renshaw, formerly of Boise but now of Salt Lake, is here looking after his ranch and to buy more cattle. Hon. F. J. Smith of Caldwell gave the council a talk last night regarding the legal features of some of the ordinances before it. Houses for rent are in great demand here.
