He made the journey on foot to Meadows in three and one-half days. Mr. Pence went to Thunder Mountain over a month ago with his brother Harry and F. Branham and with an outfit from the east were the first to cross Secesh summit with horses. On reaching Smith creek they commenced to prospect, and from that creek on other creeks without success until Trap creek was reached where they found several well defined ledges, and if the rock which Mr. Pence carried out and is exhibiting here today is a fair sample it is the opinion of old miners here that he has made a very valuable find. No assay has yet been made, but the rock, after being pounded, panned out very well. All the ground around these locations is staked out. Thirteen claims adjoining on the south, owned by L. C. Carr and Frank Emerson of Boise, were sold the day before Mr. Pence left for $30,000. The purchaser and Carr and Emerson are now on their way to Boise, when $6,000, the first cash payment, will be made. Mr. Pence reports a stampede to Blackburn, Indian and Cottonwood creeks. the jumping of the Sunnyside claims was all straightened out on the arrival of the representative of the company.
