The route proved to be 20 miles long, which was about two miles shorter than had been expected by the engineer. A branch line two and one-half miles long leading off to Pearl from the main line, was also surveyed. It is understood the route surveyed is the one that will be followed by the company in construction of the line to this city. It was noticeable that the line kept as far away from the telegraph and telephone lines as possible. Work on the canal and power plant is progressing slowly as only a small force is employed. It is reported that the force will be increased as soon as the weather is settled.
