The C. E. box social given last Saturday evening was a success financially, and everyone had a good time. The neat sum of twenty-nine dollars was realized. Carl Warner and Frank Anderson have secured a fine saw-mill property in the Willamette valley and will leave for that place this month. Our entire community was shocked and grieved at the sudden death of Mr. James Blayden. His bereaved family have the deep sympathy of all. Short services were held at the house Monday evening conducted by Rev. Greenlee, of New Plymouth. The large number of friends and neighbors present testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held. A large funeral cortege wended its way to the Payette Baptist church where impressive services were conducted by Rev. Dulin and the Woodman. Mrs. W. J. A. McVety departed for Boise last Tuesday, where she and her husband will reside permanently. Mr. McVety returned from Portland at the earnest solicitation of the Statesman and retook his former position of manager of the advertising department, at a handsome salary. Those of our young people who availed themselves of the delightful opportunity to hear Mr. J. Frank Fouche, the dramatic artist, were: Misses Barney, Haines, Ewing, Lake, Melcher, Holl, Skaggs, Cox; Messrs Haines, Dotson, Pomeroy, Barney, Boor, Ewing, Stegner, Cox, Gladdish.
