Old Postmaster’s Resignation Sent in Several Weeks Ago—Effort Made to Secure the Place for Another—Matter Taken Up by Mr. French. Everybody in this section of the state will be glad to hear that Burt Venable, editor of the Payette Independent, has been named for postmaster of that place. Mr. Venable deserves such recognition and his is splendidly qualified to discharge the duties of the position. He is one with whom it will be a pleasure for the public to do business. It seems that George P. Johnson, the outgoing postmaster, sent in his resignation about the first of the year. He informed A. B. Moss and the latter set about to secure the appointment of Clifford L. Dagg. Mr. Moss took the matter up with Judge Standrod, national committeeman, and made such representations to him that the judge sent in a recommendation for the appointment of Mr. Dagg. This was all done so secretly that the public did not know the postmaster had resigned until Chairman D. D. Campbell of the Republican county committee was notified by Representative Burton L. French that the matter of the resignation of Johnson and recommendation of Dagg had been referred to him. The effect of this letter from the congressman was to start the party forces of the county to work for Mr. Venable, with the result that the latter has been appointed.
